Major League Baseball All-Star Game
Fox, 7:30 ET/4:30 PT

We've hit the All-Star break, with Joe Buck, Harold Reynolds, Tom Verducci, Ken Rosenthal and Erin Andrews leading the Fox team to Minneapolis. In TV terms, the nice thing about the All-Star game is that, while the game matters, the broadcast hasn't taken on the over-hyped, life-and-death's-at-stake attitude of the big-time championships. It's still possible to watch the All-Star Game and feel like you're enjoying a summer night out, rather than taking part in the landing at Normandy.

Matador
El Rey, 9 ET/PT

Gabriel Luna stars as a soccer-playing spy in a new series from Robert Rodriguez's El Rey network that puts I Spy through a Machete blender. There's some fun to be had from Matador, which is flashy, colorful, and — aside from its excessive violence — done with an agreeably light touch. But there's also a sloppiness in its plotting and characterizations (this is the kind of show where the unforgivable is quickly forgiven and the unforgettable is quickly forgotten) that makes it less satisfying than it might otherwise be.

The Night Shift
NBC, 10 ET/PT

This NBC drama reaches what was expected to be its series finale, but is now just a season finale, as it was granted a surprise renewal. If you're one of those who watched, despite warnings that the show was a burnoff, feel free to feel vindicated.
