America's Got Talent | NBC, 8 ET/PT

NBC's popular talent show ends its season with a two-hour finale that will crown a new winner. While you wait for results, you're scheduled to get performances from Train, Ed Sheeran, Lenny Kravitz, Pitbull and Jennifer Hudson — the American Idol finalist who is a far bigger star than anyone Talent has so far discovered. But who knows: Maybe this is the year that changes.

The 100 | CW, 9 ET/PT

If CW is in the midst of a seismic quality shift — and to judge from its two new fall series, Jane the Virgin and The Flash, it well may be — then you can count this unexpectedly adult teen sci-fi drama as a harbinger of change. Not to over-sell: Some of the young actors struggle, and the special effects can be underwhelming. But as you'll see in this repeat of the finale, the storytelling takes risks and avoids easy answers in ways that ultimately make it far more satisfying than such bigger-budgeted, better promoted shows as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Extant | CBS, 10 ET/PT

Here's another surprise comparison. While The 100 held my interest through its run, The Extant did not — despite a stronger start and the presence of an Oscar-winning star, Halle Berry. If you did stick it out, however, here's hoping tonight's finale gives you the resolution you crave.
