Archie Panjabi to exit CBS's 'Good Wife'
Just when we were finally getting over Josh Charles leaving The Good Wife, here comes another departure. But at least this time, the show is being merciful and warning us first.
Archie Panjabi, who won the 2010 supporting-actress Emmy for her work as investigator Kalinda Sharma and delighted many a shoe lover with her character's daring boot collection, will be leaving the show at the end of Season 6.
She's already signed a development deal with 20th Century Fox TV, which plans to feature her in a drama during the 2015 pilot season.
"Archie is an Emmy-award winning dramatic actress, and rightly so," notes Fox casting executive Sharon Klein. "Her work on The Good Wife has been extraordinary, and the time has come for her to star in a project of her own. We couldn't be happier that it will be with us."
During her breaks from The Good Wife, Panjabi has moonlighted on TV back home in Britain. She co-stars with Gillian Anderson in BBC's The Fall and is in The Widower, an ITV miniseries.
She's also kept an active film slate, appearing in September's I Origins with Michael Pitt and Brit Marling, and will co-star in next June's San Andreas with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Ioan Gruffudd.
"Archie is an amazing actress who helped build Kalinda from the ground up as an enigmatic, powerful and sexy character," Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King said in a statement. "It's been a pleasure to write for her, and we'll be sad to see her go; but we still have her for the rest of Season Six, so let's not exhaust our goodbyes yet. We look forward to meeting all the wonderful new characters Archie brings to the screen. But either way, we're keeping the boots."
