Weekend TV: 'Porgy and Bess,' 'The Simpsons'

The San Francisco Opera's Porgy and Bess
PBS, Friday, 9 ET/PT (times may vary)
The PBS Arts Fall Festival continues with this 2009 San Francisco Opera production of an American musical masterpiece. Eric Owens and Laquita Mitchell star in a performance conducted by John DeMain, who also conducted the 1976 Houston Opera version that fully restored the George and Ira Gershwin score — and the show's reputation.
The Simpsons
Fox, Sunday, 8 ET/PT
Fox celebrates Halloween with the 25th edition of The Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror trilogy. Out of the three stories, watch for a twist on The Others that features a visit from the family's original incarnations on TheTracey Ullman Show.
The Good Wife
CBS, Sunday, 9 ET/PT
Alicia has often been the beneficiary of the decidedly eccentric take on lawyering practiced by Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston, whose visits are always a highlight). This week, however, she goes up against Elsbeth in court, on the opposite side of a sex discrimination suit. And if that weren't trouble enough, Alicia's firm is being attacked by a hacker, just when she's trying to get her campaign off the ground. It sounds like a rough week for Alicia — but not for her still-on-fire series, which is as good as any show on the air these days, and far more entertaining than most. Proof once again that the two qualities are not mutually exclusive.
