New Girl
Fox, 9 ET/PT

Winston's chances of becoming a cop — which most viewers have probably assumed were pencil-thin, anyway — threaten to vanish entirely tonight as his supervisor (a very funny, deadpan guest turn by Cleo King) makes a home-inspection visit. Naturally his friends put their collective worst feet forward, led by Jess, who just happens to be hiding a huge bag of meth in her closet. (Think of it as I Love Lucy with an updated situation.) The result is an amusingly silly, free-flowing episode with a sweet turn, a few surprises and more than a few decent laughs.

Marvel: 75 Years, From Pulp to Pop
ABC, 9 ET/PT

This one-hour salute to ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. producer traces Marvel's ascent from small comic-book publisher to dominant pop-culture outlet. Let's hope ABC poured some of the inventiveness that fueled Marvel's rise into this special rather than just relying on the company's name and big-screen connections as a draw, as it seems to be doing on S.H.I.E.L.D.

Election Coverage
ABC, CBS, NBC, 10 ET/PT

You can, of course, elect to watch coverage of the midterm results all day on the usual cable news outlets — or you can get the condensed version from NBC, CBS and ABC in tonight's last primetime hour. And if even that's more talk than you want, there's always Twitter.
