Aaliyah biopic scores 3.2 million viewers

Lifetime's biopic Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B scored 3.2 million viewers Saturday, and ranked as this year's No. 2 basic-cable movie, behind the channel's Flowers in the Attic, the network says, citing Nielsen data.

Not everyone was pleased with the film, perhaps explaining why it was also the most tweeted-about entertainment telecast last week, prompting 997,000 tweets that reached a unique audience of 3.4 million users, ahead of AMC's The Walking Dead. And producer Wendy Williams defended it.

Aaliyah, which starred Alexandra Shipp as the crooner who died in a 2001 plane crash, was followed by a documentary special, Aaliyah: Behind the Headlines, which averaged 2.7 million viewers.
