'SNL' tackles Ferguson in cut sketch
Saturday Night Live, with James Franco as host, took on two hot topics. One made it on the air, the other didn't.
In the cold opener, Kenan Thompson played Al Sharpton to mock the Eric Garner situation. (Thompson also mocked himself, saying, "This Eric Garner decision has upset me so much that in three days I have gained 100 pounds," a nod to Sharpton's slimmer figure.)
Weekend Update, with Colin Jost and Michael Che, also included joked on the Eric Garner grand jury decision, in back-and-forth bits that went on for two minutes.
And in a sketch that was "cut for time," according to SNL's You Tube page, Keenan Thompson and Cecily Strong played morning talk show hosts in St. Louis who were having a tough time trying to be chirpy in light of the events in Ferguson.
Franco came on to play a chef touting his new coobkook. He planned to make a frittata, and said, "To make it healthy, we're only going to use the whites of the eggs."
