TV tonight: One Direction special, 'Shrek the Halls'

One Direction: The TV Special
NBC, 8 ET/PT
NBC teams with One Direction for this behind-the-scenes documentary, staged comedy, and music that follows the band on its tour of South America and into the recording studio, with a stop in Florida for a special concert for a few select fans. In other words, it's an hour of One Direction, which is either all you need to know or more than you want to hear.
Shrek the Halls ABC, 8 ET/PT
As it has before, ABC is giving a spot on the eve before Christmas Eve to this clever extension of the popular animated film franchise. If you demand holiday warmth and a bit of actual holiday spirit in your Christmas specials, you'll probably want to spend the evening elsewhere. But if you're content with an amusing outing that offers the pleasures of the films in miniature, including performances from stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas, then look no further: this Halls' for you. And so might be the special that follows, Toy Story that Time Forgot.
Sacred Journeys With Bruce Feiler
PBS, 8 ET/PT (times may vary)
Looking for something with a bit more spiritual impact? Try Sacred Journeys, a series that follows author Bruce Feiler as he travels with pilgrims on six historic pilgrimages. Tonight's, appropriately enough, takes him to Jerusalem.
