Kathy Griffin dares to diss Amal Clooney?!
E!'s Fashion Police returned Monday night with Kathy Griffin taking over from Joan Rivers.
"I just want to thank my good friend, who we all miss, Joan Rivers," Griffin said, looking upward. "Of course. So Joan, I know you're watching from heaven. But don't get it twisted. I will not be afraid to bring the hammer down on anyone and on everyone. I learned from the best."
It was the only mention of Rivers as Griffin, Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osbourne and Brad Goreski dissected the Golden Globes red carpet.
Griffin didn't hold back, of course, and even dared to diss fashionista darling Amal Clooney.
"I thought it was weird she had those gloves that remind me of, like, a porn scene, where the guy goes home and there's the naughty dishwasher and she only has the gloves."
She added, "Like, she used those bovine insemination gloves to rake through her hair instead of a brush," Griffin cracked, as a photo of Mrs. George Clooney popped up. "But I'm fascinated how we're like, not supposed to make fun of her because she married the great George Clooney. Look, everybody's on the table, George! Nobody's safe, nobody gets a pass."
Griffin got mixed reviews:
The Daily Beast: "Griffin didn't seem in charge of the show at all when it returned Monday night—and, worse and most glaringly considering the killer heels she had to fill, she wasn't very funny either."
Newsday: "Griffin had the funniest lines ... and proved herself the cast's MVP."
The Washington Post: "This is where Griffin differed from Rivers, who, of course, loved a vicious celebrity insult more than anyone and anything, including actual fashion expertise. But in her role on "Fashion Police," Rivers didn't explain the joke — she just let the harsh zingers fly. This time, it appeared Griffin was trying a little too hard to make some enemies, which she excitedly said before the show was the plan."
The team made their picks for best and worst dressed at the Globes.
