The Mysteries of Laura
NBC, 8 ET/PT

Tonight Jake reconnects with a former girlfriend (Anastasia Griffith). Count that as a good thing if it moves the show away from a will-they/won't-they-get-back-together dynamic between Jake and Laura.

Modern Family
ABC, 9 ET/PT

Steve Zahn and Andrea Anders return as the Dunphys' horrible neighbors, while Cam goes behind Mitchell's back to take Lily to clown school — which is one of those modern Modern plots that may strike some as a stretch. But hey, the idea of Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons), who has grown into one of the show's best and driest comedy assets) in clown school will also strike an equal number as funny, sight unseen.

Man Seeking Woman
FXX, 10:30 ET/PT

Jay Baruchel stars in this fantasy comedy as Josh, a naive young man lost in the modern dating world. The absurdist aspect will be familiar to fans of FXX's Wilfred: When Josh is set up with a "troll," she's an actual, garbage-eating troll. The tone, however, is much sweeter, or as sweet as a show can be when one of its characters is dating a 125-year-old Adolf Hitler (a joke that isn't funny enough to justify its tastelessness). It's an incredibly specific show that is clearly not for everyone, but that's all right. TV has more than enough shows that aim at everyone, and hit no one.
