Ellen's Design Challenge
HGTV, 9 ET/PT

Sometimes it seems like the real challenge is keeping up with TV's endless array of competition series. This latest entrant, however — in which six furniture designers compete over-six episodes for a cash prize — does have one advantage over most others: Ellen DeGeneres, whose name is in the title and who make what HGTV is calling "appearances" on the show.

Night Will Fall
HBO, 9 ET/PT

HBO offers the TV debut of this well-reviewed documentary about the making of another documentary: German Concentration Camps Factual Survey, which was commissioned by the Allied Expeditionary Force commanders in World War II to document the horrors of the Holocaust. If that second film sounds unfamiliar, it's because it was shelved by the British, and only released last year. Night explains the complicated fate of the Factual Survey while highlighting the important work done, and the atrocities captured, by the Russian, American and British camera teams who shot its footage. The title, by the way, is a warning: Learn the Survey's lessons, or night will fall.

A Path Appears
PBS, 10 ET/PT

This three-part series uses actors, including Ashley Judd, Malin Akerman, Mia Farrow, Jennifer Garner, Regina Hall, Blake Lively, Eva Longoria and Alfre Woodard, to highlight grass-roots efforts to battle violence against women. It's reported and hosted by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn.
