Where we left off on 'The Walking Dead'
The first half of The Walking Dead's fifth season had its share of shocks and surprises, leaving its fans hungry for more. The show returns Sunday (AMC, 9 p.m. ET/PT) to close out the season, but before you tune in for more post-apocalyptic zombie adventures, make sure you're up to date on every twist and turn.
Beth Greene is the show's latest casualty. It wasn't a zombie that took out one of the youngest survivors in our group, but a bullet from her former captor, Dawn. During the hostage exchange in the final moments of the midseason finale, Beth attacked Dawn after she demanded that Noah stay at the hospital. But before Beth could get to her, Dawn shot Beth, and Daryl immediately killed Dawn. No more blood was shed in the exchange, and our survivors left the hospital with Noah, while Daryl carried Beth's body.
Eugene was lying about saving the world. Late in the fall season, Eugene — who had claimed to be a government scientist who could cure the zombie plague if they helped him get to Washington, D.C. — revealed that he'd been lying the whole time, causing a violent outburst from Sgt. Abraham. Despite his confession, Eugene is still with the group.
We still don't know enough about Father Gabriel. The bumbling priest got into danger again in the midseason finale, when he left the church fortress on his own. The combined efforts of Michonne, Carl and Sgt. Abraham's fire truck were enough to save the day, but we still don't have a good understanding of this guy. Earlier, the show revealed that he sealed himself in the church and let his parishioners die outside, but does that explain all his actions?
Morgan is on our survivors' trail. Morgan, the man Rick meets in the series' premiere episode, is back. After we caught a quick glimpse of him in the fall premiere, not too far behind our survivors, he showed up again in the November finale's post-credits scene. Morgan has made it to the abandoned church, where he picks up the map Sgt. Abraham left for Rick. Upon reading the words "Rick Grimes," Morgan's eyes get wide.
Everyone is back together again. After the group had scattered, with Carol and Beth captured and Abraham, Eugene, Rosita, Glenn and Maggie heading towards D.C., the show's main characters were reunited once again, and looking for a new direction.
