Jon Stewart on Williams: 'Bri, why?'
"Bri," said Jon Stewart on his Daily Show Monday night, addressing Nightly News anchor Brian Williams and his Iraq war stories. "Why? Why, Bri? Why Bri lie? ... Sigh."
He went on: "Were you Bri high? Cuz if they keep finding (bleep), you'll be Bri-bye."
Stewart has a scientific explanation on it all. It is a classic case of "infotainment confusion syndrome."
And he warns: "Self-love can be a bad habit."
About halfway through the seven-minute bit, Stewart turned to media, cheering the intense coverage of Williams. "Finally, someone is being held to account for misleading Americans about the Iraq war!" And looked at media hypocrisy about trust and more.
Larry Wilmore, whose Nightly Show follows The Daily Show, also took a stab at Williamsgate.
"A lot of people have accused him of lying," Wilmore said. "I'm not going to go that far, but it does appear as if somebody has been 'slow-jamming' the truth," Wilmore said, calling himself "a fellow purveyor of fake news."
Williams, who has been a frequent guest on all late-night shows, canceled an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman set for Thursday. NBC's Nightly News anchor is on hiatus.
