Nelson to reprise role in NBC 'Coach' sequel
Coach Hayden Fox is back in the game.
NBC today ordered 13 episodes of Coach, a sequel to the ABC comedy that will feature the return of original star Craig T. Nelson. The first Coach ran for nine seasons, departing the TV field in 1997.
The new version picks up in the present day, 18 years after the original ended. A retired Hayden becomes an "assistant coach to his own grown son, who is the new head coach at an Ivy League school in Pennsylvania that is starting up a new team," according to a show description.
Barry Kemp, who created the original Coach, will write the new series and he and Nelson will serve as executive producers.
No other casting and no air dates have been announced.
Nelson is back on the big screen this weekend in Get Hard, which stars Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart. Nelson recently finished a run as the patriarch on NBC's critically praised Parenthood.
