'Seinfeld' reruns headed to Hulu in rich deal

The "show about nothing" is making a whole lot of something.

Hulu Wednesday announced a deal for streaming rights to 180 episodes of the classic sitcom, which aired from 1989-98 on NBC, to be available starting in June. This marks the first time that every episode of Seinfeld will be available to stream, though reruns will continue airing on local stations and TBS. The Wall Street Journal estimated the price tag at $700,000 an episode, or $126 million.

Amazon and Yahoo were also seeking rights to Seinfeld. Last year, Netflix had expressed interest in the show, but backed out due to the price, and acquired another classic NBC sitcom, Friends.

Time Warner, which owns Seinfeld producer Castle Rock; Sony Pictures Television, which has distribution rights to the show; and Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, who created the show, will share in the windfall.
