ABC renews 'Nashville,' axes 'Forever'
ABC has canceled freshman series Forever and Cristela, but renewed several others, including American Crime, Secrets and Lies, Marvel's Agent Carter, Fresh Off the Boat, Galavant, and, as expected, Black-ish.
Also returning are dramas Nashville, one of 21 other series "on the bubble" between renewal and cancellation, for a fourth season, along with slam-dunk returnees Grey's Anatomy, Castle, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder and Once Upon a Time. (Revenge was canceled last week and airs its final episode Sunday, and Resurrection won't be back; neither will long-forgotten sitcoms Selfie and Manhattan Love Story).
Other comedies scheduled to come back include Wednesday trio The Middle, Modern Family and The Goldbergs, though it says the fate of Last Man Standing, considered a likely renewal, is now undecided, pending a new agreement.
The network announced its picks late Thursday, ahead of Tuesday's announcement of its fall schedule, when it will tout a solid year, with ratings up 6%, as the only major network to gain among its target young-adult audience.
Returning reality series are Dancing with the Stars, The Bachelor, Shark Tank and its new spinoff, Beyond the Tank ,and America's Funniest Home Videos, along with newsmagazine 20/20.
