Tony Awards draw smallish crowd

The 69th Tony Awards drew a typically small crowd of 6.4 million viewers, according to preliminary Nielsen estimates.

The 3-hour telecast, which aired live in Eastern and Central time zones on CBS, was down from 7 million last year and 7.3 million in 2013, but was up from 2012, when just 6 million tuned in. Still, Sunday's show hit its lowest rating ever among young-adult viewers.

This year, Broadway's top awards faced Game 2 of the NBA Finals, which went into overtime, and the penultimate episode of this season's Game of Thrones, HBO's top series.

Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming hosted. Fun Home and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time won best musical and best play, respectively.
