Colbert's first musical guest: Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar will be Stephen Colbert's inaugural Late Show musical guest on Sept. 9

The rapper won't be the show's first performance—that honor goes to Colbert's bandleader Jon Batiste, who will perform on the show's inaugural episode on Sept. 8.

Kendrick's appearance is especially significant for Colbert; the rapper was the last-ever musical guest on the Colbert Report.

Considering his predecessor David Letterman's legacy of featuring interesting bands and performers during his Late Show tenure, Colbert has some big shoes to fill.
