'Pee-wee's Big Holiday' gets trailer, release date
The latest installation in the Pee-wee Herman franchise, Pee-wee's Big Holiday, now has a trailer and release date.
The Netflix original, which hits the streaming service on March 18, revives the iconic Pee-wee character for a new adventure about "how a fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger inspires Pee-wee Herman to take his first-ever holiday," according to a Netflix release.
Produced by Judd Apatow and creator/star Paul Reubens, the movie co-stars Joe Manganiello and Arrested Development's Alia Shawkat, with John Lee (Wonder Showzen) directing.
Holiday is the latest Pee-wee project for Reubens, who's played the character on-screen since 1981, earning 22 Emmys in five years for Pee-wee's Playhouse on CBS. "Judd and I dreamt up this movie four years ago," Reubens previously said in a statement. "The world was much different back then — Netflix was waiting by the mailbox for red envelopes to arrive."
"I've changed all that. The future is here. Get used to it. Bowtie is the new black.
