Apatow, Holmes get HBO comedy, 'Crashing'

Girls executive producer Judd Apatow has a new comedy coming to HBO.

The pay-cable network Thursday gave a series order to Crashing, a half-hour comedy starring comedian Pete Holmes (TBS's The Pete Holmes Show). Both Apatow and Holmes serve as executive producers.

The show's description says: "After his wife leaves him, a sweet, wholesome comedian has nowhere to stay but on the couches of New York's finest comics." The series is loosely based on some of Holmes' experiences.

The Crashing order comes shortly after HBO announced it had renewed Girls for a sixth and final season in 2017. Season 5 premieres Feb. 21.

Apatow, who has directed such feature films as Trainwreck and This Is 40, will direct the series pilot. He also is executive producer of an upcoming Netflix series, Love (Feb. 11), described as an "unflinching" relationship comedy. It stars Paul Rust and Gillian Jacobs (Community).

The Pete Holmes Show was canceled after two seasons in 2014.
