Vanessa Hudgens lost her father, Greg, to cancer Saturday, the day before she was scheduled to perform in Fox's production of Grease: Live!

The actress, cast as Rizzo in the live production, tweeted the news of her sad loss Sunday morning, then followed up with a tweet saying she would perform in the musical later in the day "in his honor."

Hudgens spoke in August about her father's battle at the 2015 Industry Dance Awards & Cancer Benefit Show.

"Last year, my boyfriend, Austin (Butler), lost his mom, Lori, to cancer, and my dad has just been recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. And, let me tell you, I hate cancer. I hate cancer with every cell of my being," she said, dedicating an award she received to Austin's mother, her father and to families struggling with cancer.

Earlier, she had posted a picture with her father on Instagram, asking friends and fans to pray for his healing.

Fox will broadcast Grease Sunday at 7 p.m. ET live/PT tape-delayed.
