Fox adds 'Lethal Weapon,' 'Exorcist' remakes, four more shows
Fox, getting a jumpstart on next week's unveiling of new programming to advertisers, is adding six more new shows for next season, including remakes of decades-old films The Exorcist and Lethal Weapon.
The Exorcist, set more than 40 years after the Oscar-winning 1973 film, follows two "very different" priests (Alfonso Herrera and Ben Daniels) solving one family's case of demonic possession. Geena Davis also stars.
Lethal Weapon, based on the franchise that began with the 1987 film, stars Damon Wayans Sr. as Roger Murtaugh, the role played by Danny Glover, and Clayne Crawford as Martin Riggs, the Mel Gibson character.
Other new series ordered Tuesday are:
- APB, a drama about a tech billionaire (Justin Kirk) who buys a troubled Chicago police precinct and takes it private.
- Pitch, about a young female pitcher (Kylie Bunbury) who, called up by the San Diego Padres, becomes the first female Major League player. Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Mark Consuelos and Ali Larter are also in the cast.
- Making History, a time-travel comedy about three friends that toggles between a historical adventure and a contemporary buddy comedy. Adam Pally, Leighton Meester and Yassir Lester star.
- The Mick, another comedy about a female hustler (Kaitlin Olsen) who has to assume custody of her on-the-lam sister's three spoiled kids.
The new pickups follow earlier orders for seven more series including 24: Legacy, a reboot of the action thriller with a new cast; Prison Break, a limited series sequel with original stars, led by Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller; and Star, from Empire producer Lee Daniels, about a "girl group" of singers.
Fox announces its fall schedule Monday.
