Billy Eichner reveals guests on the 'Street'
BEVERLY HILLS — Watch out, pedestrians: Billy is once again hitting the street.
Come this fall, comedian Billy Eichner will be surprising unwary walkers on the streets of New York in truTV’s sketch show Billy on the Street. And he’ll be walking with some great new guests, including Aziz Ansari, Jon Hamm, Lupita N'yong'o, John Oliver and Seth Rogen. The premiere date has yet to be announced.
Billy on the Street is an unscripted man-on-the-street show, but it isn’t Candid Camera or Punk'd: Eichner’s camera crew is with him and visible at all times. People are sometimes startled when he approaches them, but outside of one older woman who slapped him, most people either just deal with him or ignore him. “Nine out of 10 people," said Eichner at the Television Critics Association press tour, "just walk past me and don’t say anything.”
And there are the ones who walk past and then yell back — like the woman who refused to answer a question and, when he yelled 'Why?' at her retreating back, turned around and yelled “Because!” “She matched me at my level of rage. Very few people do that. I loved it.”
Eichner talks to a lot of people in a lot of parts of New York, but one thing unites almost all of them. “New Yorkers are very savvy. I don’t feel like I’m exploiting people. They give it back to me as much as I give it to them. This is not a show about ‘let’s make people look stupid.’"
