'People vs. O.J.' wins three top TCA Awards


BEVERLY HILLS — FX miniseries The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story won three top honors at the Television Critics Association awards Saturday, including program of the year.

The TCA also honored FX's The Americans as outstanding drama for the second consecutive year; named ABC's Black-ish the year's outstanding comedy; and gave special awards to Lily Tomlin and The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

The awards were accepted by many top stars and producers at the Beverly Hilton during the TCA's semiannual press tour, in a ceremony hosted by Jaime Camil of CW's Jane the Virgin.

People vs. O.J., a heavy favorite to win at this year's Emmy Awards, also won for outstanding achievement in movies, miniseries or specials and star Sarah Paulson, who played prosecutor Marcia Clark, won for individual achievement in drama.

Tomlin, whose TV work spans five decades, from Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In to Netflix's current Grace and Frankie, won the Career Achievement Award. And Mary Tyler Moore, an all-time classic sitcom, won the Heritage Award, which recognizes series for their "cultural and social impact."

Other honors:

  • USA's Mr. Robot won the TCA Award for outstanding new program.
  • Netflix's Making a Murderer won for outstanding reality program.
  • Rachel Bloom, the star and co-creator of CW's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, won for outstanding achievement in comedy.
  • TBS' Full Frontal with Samantha Bee won for outstanding achievement in news and information, a catch-all category that includes programs both satirical and serious.
  • PBS' Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood won for outstanding achievement in youth programming.
