CBS extends 'Bull,' 'MacGyver,' 'Kevin'
CBS on Monday handed full-season orders to three freshman series.
Bull, Kevin Can Wait and MacGyver were extended for nine additional episodes beyond the 13 initially ordered, enough for a full season. They join other freshman keepers including ABC's Designated Survivor and Speechless; Fox's Lethal Weapon; and NBC's This Is Us.
Bull, TV's most-watched newcomer, stars Michael Weatherly (NCIS) as a jury consultant, modeled on the early career of talk-show host Dr. Phil McGraw. Kevin, the most-watched new comedy, stars Kevin James (The King of Queens) as a retired New York City cop and family man. MacGyver is a remake of the 1985-92 series about an inventive problem solver.
“We’re thrilled viewers have embraced these three shows creatively,” said CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller, in a statement. “Each one has made an immediate and positive impact on our schedule, while significantly contributing to growing their respective nights.”
Kevin will be tested anew next week, when it moves earlier on Mondays to lead off the night as The Big Bang Theory returns to Thursdays. CBS also has three more premieres next week in medical drama Pure Genius; Man with a Plan, another family comedy starring Matt LeBlanc; and The Great Indoors, a workplace sitcom starring Joel McHale.
