Exclusive: Stars, producers set table for '24: Legacy'

24: Legacy is the next generation of the classic Fox adventure drama, but newcomers needn't worry about being left out in the cold.

In a new video that includes episodic clips, made available exclusively to Paste BN, stars and producers lay out the basics of the new show, which premieres Feb. 5 after the Super Bowl on Fox. Viewers don't need to know the past story to enjoy the new one, executive producer Howard Gordon says in the video, but fans familiar with the original will enjoy some of the subtle and not-so-subtle references.

As with the original, Legacy includes a looming terrorist attack at its core, but it's updated to mirror today's world. "24: Legacy (has) a very contemporary threat and a very contemporary hero," says executive producer Evan Katz, who worked on the original show.

That hero is Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins, Straight Outta Compton, The Walking Dead), an Army Ranger who was part of a mission that resulted in the killing of an infamous terrorist. Now, the terrorist's allies are trying to kill Carter, back in the United States and living a civilian life, and his colleagues, with a larger domestic terrorist plot in the offing.

Eric, who is married and not a CTU agent, differs substantially from Kiefer Sutherland's more experienced Jack Bauer.

"Eric Carter is a more raw, more emotional protagonist. He’s a bit of an Everyman," Hawkins says in the video. "And he has a lot to lose."

What remains consistent with 24, however, is that that people and their motives are unpredictable.

"You never know who’s good. You never know who’s bad," says Dan Bucatinsky (Scandal), who plays Andy, a CTU analyst.

In the video, stars Miranda Otto, Jimmy Smits and Anna Diop are also featured in behind-the-scenes interviews.
