Rachel Bilson, Kaitlin Doubleday join the drama on CMT's 'Nashville'
After saying goodbye to Connie Britton's Rayna Jaymes, Nashville is welcoming two new faces.
Following the CMT's music-industry drama's midseason finale Thursday night, the show shared some news that gives fans something to look forward to: Rachel Bilson (Hart of Dixie, The O.C.) and Kaitlin Doubleday (Empire) are joining the cast when the series returns later this year.
The actresses broke the news on their Instagram accounts after the East Coast broadcast of the show.
Nashville fans are still in mourning after Britton's beloved character, country music superstar Rayna, died in the Feb. 23 episode. The show, which moved to CMT after it was canceled by ABC, is the cable network's highest-rated original series.
Look for clues as to what the new cast member's roles may be in the captions of the Instagram posts by Bilson and Doubleday.
The new characters aren't meant as replacements for Rayna's character. Based on those Instagram posts, Bilson's character will be connected to record label Highway 65, and Doubleday's to the Bluebird Cafe. They join Nashville veterans Hayden Panettiere as Juliette Barnes, Clare Bowen as Scarlett O’Connor, Chris Carmack as Will Lexington, Charles Esten as Deacon Claybourne, Jonathan Jackson as Avery Barkley, Sam Palladio as Gunnar Scott, Maisy Stella as Daphne Conrad and Lennon Stella as Maddie Conrad.
“We welcome Rachel and Kaitlin into our incredibly talented ensemble,” said executive producer Marshall Herskovitz, in a statement. “We fondly anticipate the second half of the season filled with surprising twists and turns that make Nashville so beloved by the fans.”
