Donald Glover is bringing an animated Marvel 'Deadpool' series to FXX
Marvel's Deadpool, the hit 2016 film starring Ryan Reynolds, is spawning not just a sequel but now, an adult animated series.
FX Networks said Wednesday that a 10-episode first season of Deadpool, based on the wisecracking comics mercenary introduced in 1991, will air on its smaller FXX channel in 2018.
It will be written and produced by Atlanta's creative team of Donald Glover and his brother Stephen. (Their Peabody Award-winning dramedy series returns to FX for its second season next year.)
Deadpool marks FX's second Marvel series after Legion, from Fargo creator Noah Hawley.
In a statement, Marvel Television chief Jeph Loeb enthused: "How much more fun could this be? Deadpool, Donald and FX – the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth! We're thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with Legion continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation."
It's a busy time for Glover, who won a Golden Globe for Atlantaand has lined up feature-film roles in Spider Man: Homecoming, and two major Disney projects: the as-yet-untitled Han Solo movieand their live-action remake of The Lion King.
