Nielsens: Emmys flat, hurricane-relief telethon big, 'Orville' fades


Ratings for the week ending Sept. 17, 2017

Emmy toast. The 69th Primetime Emmy Awards averaged 11.4 million same-day viewers Sunday on CBS, flat with last year's record low.

Raising funds. Hand to Hand, Tuesday's telethon benefiting victims of recent hurricanes in Florida and Texas, averaged 18 million viewers across 12 broadcast and cable networks. 

Finale time. ABC's Bachelor in Paradise closed out the summer with a typical 4.7 million same-day viewers; Sunday's series finale of FX's The Strain notched 995,000, while AMC's Preacher closed out its second season with 972,000 Monday.

Early-fall openers: HBO's Vice Principals returned with 711,000 Sunday; Comedy Central's Broad City was back with a boosted 880,000 Wednesday; FX's Better Things began a second season with 528,000 Thursday. And Fox's The Orville (6.6 million) shed 2 million Sunday from last week's debut.
