Weekend TV: TCM celebrates Katharine Hepburn

Katharine Hepburn Festival
TCM, Friday, 6 am ET/3 PT
When people say "they don't make movie stars like they used to," Katharine Hepburn often comes up as an example. Well, today's stars can take heart: They didn't make anyone else like Hepburn back then, either. You can enjoy her work all day on TCM, in a marathon that runs past midnight and stretches from Little Women to Mary of Scotland.
NFL Hall of Fame Game
NBC, Sunday, 8 ET/5 PT
If asked what the highest-rated series was last season, reasonable answers might be NCIS or The Big Bang Theory. But the actual answer is NBC's Sunday prime-time football broadcast, which kicks off this year with the Hall of Fame Game from Canton, Ohio. You can ask whether that apples to oranges comparison is actually fair, but that's another question. And yes, it does seem early for football — but that's another issue.
True Detective
HBO, Sunday, 9 ET/PT
We've reached the 90-minute finale of this HBO series' vastly disappointing second season. Up to now, the words that seem most applicable to Detective are "over-written" and "miscast," with "hot mess" another possibility — but HBO programming president Michael Lombardo insists the word that applies to Sunday's conclusion is "satisfying." And he could be right. The show will end — and that will certainly satisfy me.
