Sunday TV: 'Simpsons,' 'Jesse Stone'
The Simpsons
Fox, 8 ET/PT
The Simpsons get a jump on the holiday with this "Halloween of Horror" outing that finds the family facing a home invasion from Halloween-store employees. Don't let the Halloween theme worry you: We're still getting a Treehouse of Horror special. We just have to wait another week.
Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise
Hallmark Channel, 9 ET/PT
After a three-year absence, Robert Parker's Jesse Stone movies return to TV, albeit on Hallmark rather than CBS. Once again, Tom Selleck stars as the laconic, small-town cop — who once again gets bored in his small town and travels to Boston to solve a bigger murder. Leslie Hope, William Devane, Gloria Reuben and Luke Perry round out a strong cast in this film, which Selleck co-wrote. Fans of the books might wish the films were more faithful, and fans of good dialogue might wish Jesse relied less heavily on repetition. ("I can't tell you." "You can't tell me?" "I can't tell you.") But it's a great role for Selleck, and a nice evening in for those who miss old-fashioned mysteries.
Blood & Oil
ABC, 9 ET/PT
Clearly Billy (Chace Crawford) never saw Dallas, or he would have known Hap (Don Johnson) was going to cheat him, leaving Billy to seek revenge. To judge from the ratings, the best advice for Billy is "seek fast."
