TV tonight: 'Vicious,' 'The Tunnel'
Vicious
PBS, 8 ET/PT (times may vary)
This broad, astoundingly old-fashioned sitcom starring the redoubtable Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi as long-time lovers ends its run with a one-hour special. The show’s overtly theatrical style and arch, insult-laden dialogue — sort of The Golden Girls meets The Boys in the Band — was not to all tastes. But there’s no disputing the talent of those stars, and for that alone, we’ll give Vicious a one-hour pass. As long as they promise this actually is the last hour.
Endeavour
PBS, 9 ET/PT (times may vary)
For those seeking something scripted to pull them through a few summer weekends, PBS offers the third-season return of its Inspector Morse prequel Endeavour. The four-part season starts with Inspector Morse, played by Shaun Evans, working on a covert investigation to find a young woman's killer.
The Tunnel
PBS, 10:30 ET/PT (times may vary)
The Tunnel follows two cops — one French, one British — as they try to solve the murder of a French politician whose body was left on the border between the two countries. If that sounds familiar, the show is inspired by the same Scandinavian series, Broen, that was remade here as The Bridge.
