TV tonight: 'Big Bang' shift, 'Good Place'
Having spent several weeks on Mondays this fall, helping launch Kevin Can Wait, TV’s most popular comedy returns to Thursday to help launch The Great Indoors (8:30 ET/PT). Hey — don’t blame the launcher. It’s just following orders. What's Bang is doing to celebrate its return? Sending Penny to the Van Nuys Comic-Con, where she’ll be greeted by fans of Serial Ape-ist, her much-loved movie breakthrough. Well, much loved in some quarters.
You could, of course, stay on CBS for Great's premiere. But you’d probably be happier over at NBC’s Good, which turned an important story corner last week with Eleanor’s last-second confession. Let’s see where that takes her, as this 13-episode comedy starts the push to its conclusion.
Then you’ll want to turn back to CBS for the season premiere of one of TV’s best comedies — and most interesting series. Bonnie and Adam (William Fichtner, a great addition) are having trouble taking their relationship to the next level, a common enough romantic-comedy complication. The uncommon twist here, as is often the case on this very strong series, is that Bonnie’s alcoholism keeps getting in the way of her judgment. Oh, and as an added bonus, Allison Janney is flat-out brilliant.
