Hulu to stream all episodes of 'CSI'
The original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, which wrapped its 15th year on CBS Sunday night, is headed to Hulu.
Hulu has acquired exclusive subscription video on demand rights to all 14 previous seasons of the crime procedural, the company announced Wednesday. Through the multi-year agreement, Hulu Plus subscribers ($7.99 per month) will be able to stream over 300 episodes of CSI beginning in early April.
The series has earned the title "most-watched show" in the world five times, most recently in 2012, and outlasted its two previous spin-off series, CSI: Miami and CSI: New York. The franchise is set to debut its latest spin-off, CSI: Cyber, starring Patricia Arquette, on CBS on March 4.
"CSI is one of the most popular television franchises in the world and we could not be more thrilled to make all episodes available on Hulu," said Craig Erwich, Hulu's Senior Vice President and Head of Content in a statement announcing the acquisition.
"This deal not only represents a huge growth in our offering of premium content, but it also represents an expansion in our partnership with CBS. We look forward to working with CBS to continue making some of the best shows on television available for viewers to stream on more screens in the future," he said.
The deal marks Hulu's continued efforts to acquire exclusive content and compete with other subscription-based services, such as Netflix and Amazon. In December, Hulu announced a deal with MGM and 20th Century Fox that gave the site exclusive streaming rights to a number of FX shows like Fargo and The Strain.
