Irv Gordon goes miles in style
Irv Gordon's Volvo P1800 should hit 3 million miles next month in Alaska. He has driven every mile himself since he purchased the car in 1966. "I never learned how to share when I was little," Gordon, 74, says with a laugh.
The retired Long Island teacher didn't set out to break records — he just likes driving the car. In 1998, at 1.69 million miles, he made the Guinness Book of World Records for most miles driven by a single owner in a non-commercial vehicle.
Gordon says the secret to his car's longevity is in the glove box. "I read the owners manual, and I service the car just the way the book calls for it. I figured the people who wrote the book are the people who built the car, and they should know." Follow along at 3millionreasons.com/irv.
