Women's Wear Daily cuts back on print schedule to go weekly
Women's Wear Daily, the fashion and culture publication that's been publishing since 1910, will cease its daily print operation next month, a move industry watchers have anticipated since it was bought by a new owner last year.
Starting April 29, WWD will publish once a week, while delivering timely content online on its website. The final daily print edition will be published and delivered on April 24, it said.
"We need to erase geographic boundaries and eliminate obstacles to timely distribution," the paper said.
In January, New York Post reported that WWD's owner, Penske Media, was considering cutting back on print operations.
Penske Media, which is controlled by publishing entrepreneur Jay Penske, bought WWD and M magazine from Condé Nast in August. It also owns owns Variety, Deadline.com and other publications.
WWD said it will open new bureaus this year in China and Brazil and hire more staffers in its offices in Paris, Milan, London and Tokyo.
