Comcast Q2 income up 7.3% as revenue rises at NBC, cable unit


Comcast Corp., the nation's largest cable company, said Thursday its second quarter net income rose 7.3% to $2.1 billion due largely to higher revenues from its cable services and film studio.

Adjusted earnings per share totaled 84 cents, matching analysts' estimates.

Company-wide revenue rose 11.3% to $18.7 billion.

Shares of Comcast fell 2.4% to $63.98 in midday trading.

The cable communications unit's revenue Increased 6.3% to $11.7 billion. Its customer total rose by 31,000, as 180,000 more Internet customers who signed up during the quarter helped offset a loss of 69,000 TV customers.

NBCUniversal, which owns NBC, Universal Pictures and Universal Parks & Resorts, reported a 20% increase in revenue to $7.2 billion. "The record-breaking box office performances" of Jurassic World and Furious 7 led to a 93% revenue increase at NBCUniversal's filmed entertainment division, the company said.
