Chipotle adds four new directors to its board

Chipotle, which has been reorganizing its leadership as it tries to recover from a series of food safety scares that damaged its image, announced Friday the addition of four new directors to its board.

The new board members include Paul Cappuccio, general counsel and executive vice president at Time Warner, and Matthew Paull, a former chief financial officer for McDonald's Corp.

The appointments, which began on Dec. 14, will last through the Mexican eatery’s annual investors meeting next year.

It’s the latest leadership move by the company. It announced on Dec. 12 that its founder, Steve Ells would once again be the sole CEO of the restaurant chain after sharing those duties with Chipotle's former COO, Monty Moran, since 2009. Moran vacated his seat on Chipotle's board immediately, the company said.

"The addition of these new directors strengthens our Board of Directors, and gives us the oversight, accountability and leadership we need as we continue our efforts to reestablish Chipotle as the leader we have been for much of our history,"  Ells said in a statement.

Chipotle has been struggling to recover from several outbreaks of E.coli and norovirus that sickened more than 50 customers in 11 states last year, and forced the company to shut down some restaurants.
