Getting 'duped' is cool now: The Daily Money

Happy Monday, dear readers. This is Swapna Venugopal Ramaswamy with The Daily Money headlines.

Getting duped (on purpose) is, apparently, trendy now.

Publications like Teen Vogueand Shape frequently research and share lists of dupes, short for duplicates, for brand-named items for everything from leggings to beauty items.  You can search social media for the best dupe of anything you’re looking for and buy it almost instantly

How big is the dupes economy? It’s hard to say.

Most data focus on the more than $1.7 trillion “counterfeit” market. Counterfeits and dupes aren’t technically the same. Dupes copy or imitate the physical appearance of other products but don’t copy the brand name or logo of a trademarked item the way a counterfeit, or fake, does.

Inflation and young shoppers are the biggest drivers of the trend, which is now cool and fun to hunt the “best dupes” on certain items.

"I don't find there's a big difference between the real stuff and dupes, and I don't have to pay four times the price," said Danielle Carmody from Atlanta, Ga. who says she regularly scans Instagram for dupes of everyday things she wants to buy.

Chick-fil-A': Sugar and spice and everything nice

A new Chick-fil-A’ new sandwich is being introduced today.

It’s sugary and comes with a little bit of heat.

The restaurant is testing a Maple Pepper Bacon Sandwich at locations in Indianapolis, Ind. and Lexington, Ky.

According to company representatives, the sandwich includes grilled chicken, pepper jack cheese, green leaf lettuce, sweet and spicy pickle chips and bacon hand-tossed in brown sugar and pepper.
