Nasal wash recalled nationwide over bacteria risk: What to know
A nasal cleansing wash sold nationwide is being recalled because the product may be contaminated with bacteria, according to a notice posted this week by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Ascent Consumer Products Inc., based in Melville, NY, is recalling its SinuCleanse Soft Tip Squeeze Bottle Nasal Wash System, the company posted.
The product may be contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, which causes staph infections, according to an FDA release.
As of Monday, no infections had been reported by consumers.
Here's what to know about the recall:
What nasal wash is being recalled?
The recalled nasal wash is SinuCleanse Soft Tip Squeeze Bottle Nasal Wash System and carries the following lot number and expiration date:
- Lot number: 024122611A1
- Expiration date: Dec. 31, 2027
The lot number and expiration date can be identified on the side of the carton or on the back of the Saline Packets within the carton.
The product is packaged in a carton, containing a squeeze bottle and 30 saline packets and was distributed in January 2025 nationwide through retail and online outlets.
What should I do if I bought the recalled nasal wash?
Consumers who purchased the product and used it should contact their health care provider, the FDA reported.
Anyone with additional questions about the recall can email Ascent Consumer Products, Inc, at cs@ascentconsumerproducts.com
What is staph?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, staph is a germ about 30% of the population carries in their nose.
But the bacteria can lead to infections if it gets in the blood or sepsis, which can cause death.
