McDonald's plans to hire 375,000 workers this summer

McDonald's is planning to hire up to 375,000 workers at restaurants across the country this summer, the company announced on May 12.
Joe Erlinger, McDonald's USA's president, made the announcement at one of the chain's Ohio restaurants alongside U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer and Ohio Lt. Gov Jim Tressel.
The company said in a press release that the hiring blitz is one of its biggest in years. It comes as McDonald's aims to reach a total of 50,000 restaurants by 2027 — an increase in 900 restaurants over the next two years, the chain said.
“I often think about the time I spent working in our restaurants as a General Manager, and it was immediately clear that crew members are the heart and soul of this brand,” Erlinger said in the release.
McDonald's is the leading chain restaurant in terms of sales in the United States, having generated over $53 billion in 2023, according to Statista.
How many employees does McDonald's have?
McDonald's says it employs nearly two million people worldwide. In the United States, McDonald's says 1 in 8 people have worked in one of its restaurants.
However, the fast food chain's employee turnover rate is believed to be high.
Paste BN reached out to McDonald's about its turnover rate but was unable to gain any information on it.
Trump's labor secretary joins McDonald's for hiring announcement
In response to McDonald's announcement, Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer said in a post on X that the company "is sparking a ripple effect of economic prosperity for our workers, communities, and economy."
"Thanks to @POTUS’ leadership, the Golden Age is here," she said.
Chavez-DeRemer also spoke during the press conference in Ohio.
"It’s the best first job, right here at McDonald’s," she said.
Last year during President Donald Trump's election campaign, he worked a drive-thru at a Pennsylvania McDonald's.
