Stock futures mixed as possibility for rate hike sets in
U.S. futures were mixed Monday morning, coming off Janet Yellen's speech on Friday suggesting a U.S. interest rate increase is still possible this year.
Here's where stock futures stood ahead of the opening bell:
Dow Jones: -0.29%
S&P 500: -.16%
Nasdaq: +.13%
Despite ample opportunity for investors to mentally prepare, Asian markets struggled Monday after Yellen's speech at the Fed's annual monetary policy conference. The rate of job growth and economic growth overall could make the case for a rate hike, and the agency has left the door open for that. Japan's Nikkei 225 index grew 2.3%, but Hong Kong's Hang Seng index fell 45%. The Shanghai Composite index barely dropped .1%.
Germany's DAX and France's CAC remained flat, while Britain's FTSE saw .31% growth.
Benchmark U.S. crude fell 1.55% to $46.90 a barrel, according to Bloomberg's data. Brent crude, which is used to price international oils, dropped 1.32% to $49.26.
