Factory orders fall in October

Factory orders fell 0.9% to $486.9 billion in October, the Commerce Department said Thursday.

The decline was driven by a 5.7% drop in orders for transportation equipment, particularly aircraft. Excluding transportation equipment, new orders rose slightly.

A big increase in orders by Boeing had led to an increase in factory orders in September.
