Middletown Family Dollar store part of nationwide closings
One-minute read

MIDDLETOWN - Family Dollar is closing its store on Route 36, part of a recently announced move to shutter hundreds of locations nationwide.
Store closing signs have gone up in the store's windows, located at the Eastpointe shopping center on Route 36. Family Dollar opened that store in 2018.
Inside, signs said prices are slashed 50%. "Store closing. Everything must be sold."
Recently, Family Dollar Stores said it would lay off 94 employees at various stores throughout the state, effective April 20, according to a notice filed with the New Jersey Department of Labor.
Dollar Tree growth: Hazlet getting second Dollar Tree at this shopping center
Last week, Dollar Tree, which acquired Family Dollar in 2015, said it reviewed its fleet of stores in the fourth quarter of 2023, identifying stores for closure, relocation or re-bannering and looking at factors such as market conditions and the store performance.
"As a result of this review, we plan on closing approximately 600 Family Dollar stores in the first half of fiscal 2024," the company said in a statement. "Additionally, approximately 370 Family Dollar and 30 Dollar Tree stores will close over the next several years at the end of each store’s current lease term."
