Cadillac XTS gets 410-hp twin turbo V-6, $63,020 price tag

Cadillac will offer a 410-horsepower twin-turbocharged V-6 engine in the 2014 XTS, starting in August.

It is the inaugural offering in a line that Caddy calls Vsport. More power and money than normal models, but not as much power or money as the V-Series monsters that have long since shushed any comments about Cadillac's lack of serious performance.

The Vsport XTS will start at $63,020 including shipping.

Under the Vsport hood is the well-known, widely used 3.6-liter V-6, but modified far beyond the addition of two turbos. It also gets:

•New cylinder block casting

•Beefed-up connecting rods and pistons

•Overhauled direct injection fuel injection system

•A plethora of cooling, ducting and covering to keep the beast at least reasonably quiet and refined while performing its mayhem.

Power rating, which GM -- almost unique among automakers -- verifies with third-party certification as done in Europe, is 410 hp and 369 pounds-feet of torque.

XTS is Cadillac's biggest-for-now sedan, launched about a year ago starting at about $45,000. It's available with FWD or AWD.

Caddy's redesigned CTS mid-size sedan is to get a Vsport treatment, too.

The CTS goes on sale this fall, starting at $46,205. The Vsport version will be $59,995.
