Lamborghini creates racy Huracan supercar
CARMEL, Calif. — Lamborghini is trying to capitalize on its latest supercar with a racing version.
It unveiled the new Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo, combining a 620-horsepower engine with a super-light frame to create what it expects to be breakneck speed on the track. The car was revealed at the Quail Motorsports Gathering here.
Huracan replaces the well-known Gallardo in Lambo's racing program.
The Super Trofeo will use the same direct-injected V-10 engine from the road-car version of the Huracan, Lambo says.
Lambo CEO Stephan Winkelmann says the Huracan is already a hit, with sales of about 2,500 of them worldwide already. "We feel great because it is exceeding our expectations," he said after the ceremony.
He credits the V-10 engine as a key way into which supers cars can stand apart from rivals.
And with the supercar launch a success, could the SUV that the company has shown in concept form be next? "We still have not decided," Winkelmann says.
