Fiat Chrysler CEO takes over as Ferrari boss departs

It is every auto enthusiast's dream: the thought of running Ferrari.

Now the job will come — at least temporarily — to Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne, and he's probably not all that happy about it.

Fiat-Chrysler announced that Ferrari's president, Luca Di Montezemolo, will leave the company next month. The Associated Press notes the departure comes after a losing season by Ferrari's Formula One team.

The change also precedes the listing of Fiat Chrysler stock on the New York Stock Exchange, a move that could come as soon as next month. The listing marks the combination of Italy's Fiat with Detroit's Chrysler Group.

Fiat-Chrysler said Marchionne will take over after Montezemolo leaves on Oct. 13 — as if Marchionne doesn't have enough else to do.

At least Ferrari is good shape financially, but AP notes that Marchionne was "terribly upset" by the F1 team's performance.

"Our mutual desire to see Ferrari achieve its true potential on the track has led to misunderstandings which became clearly visible over the last weekend," Marchionne is quoted as having said in statement.
