Mazda road show for redone MX-5 moves to L.A.

HOLLYWOOD -- Mazda's road show to roll out the fourth-generation MX-5 Miata roadster continued with an appearance Tuesday night at a preview event before the Los Angeles Auto Show where it will be displayed.

The 2016 model is due on sale next summer.

The company unveiled the design in August with simultaneous "design study" reveals in Spain, Japan and in California. The look, don't touch events offered few specifics, however.

The event here expanded on the limited details we do have, specifically that the 2016 is slightly more compact -- 3.2 inches shorter, an inch narrower, on a wheelbase 0.6 of an inch shorter -- and about 220 pounds lighter, thanks to Mazda Skyactiv design and technology.

And the powerplant will be a 2-liter four -- not confirmed but thought likely to be a version of the naturally aspirated 2-liter in the latest Mazda3

But it's a good-looking roadster and the event gives us a chance to offer more photos of the coming MX-5.
