Honda joins the hydrogen parade in Detroit

Honda is going to show its version of a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month.

Like Toyota, which has already unveiled its own hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle, the Honda FCV concept plays heavy on trying to appear aerodynamic and futuristic.

Both companies say they are going to put their fuel-cell vehicles into the hands of consumers in America. Honda has fielded previous fuel-cell car, the Clarity, that has also gone to a handful of consumers. The new one is the latest venture into the fuel considered so clean that only water vapor is emitted from the car.

Honda says its FCV fuel-cell car is coming to the U.S. after it shows up in Japan.

Honda and Toyota have both portrayed hydrogen as a more practical alternative to all-electric cars in meeting clean-air mandates. But the big problem remains lack of fueling stations.
