Only $31,415: Here are your Pi Day car deals
Happy Pi Day. To celebrate the fact that Saturday's date – 3/14/15 – is also the first five digits of the mathematical constant Pi, the number crunching gnomes at Autotrader sought out areas where the mathematical constant and the world of car-buying intersect.
Autotrader searched its data banks for vehicles on dealers' lots with 31,415 on their price tags or odometers.
More than just fictional character stuck in a lifeboat with a tiger, Pi's mathematical value is 3.1415. In calendar terms, that means every March 14 – 3/14 is a mini-Pi Day, just like every May 4 is Star Wars Day – "May the fourth be with you."
Nerds of the world, rejoice. Autotrader found 124 vehicles, including a surprising number of Honda Accord V-6 coupes, itself an idiosyncratic model that may have been built specifically for fans of irrational numbers.
Honda dealers had the most Pi mobiles, 42. Ford followed, with 23 vehicles, including Mustangs and Escapes. Chevrolet and Nissan each had a lucky 13 Pi cars. The vehicles that made the list were from the 2013-16 model years. Nearly all were new.
Autotrader also searched for used vehicles with 31,415 miles on their odometers. It found 25 for sale.
The most expensive was a Toyota Tundra pickup with an asking price of $36,400. The cheapest was a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze going for $11,797. The oldest car with just 31,415 miles was a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette selling for $26,916. A 2007 BMW 328i listed at $24,944.
